Magnets

I am having problems returning to my job after a fitted defibulator because of the magnetic environment I work within.  Is there a protective vest on the market that could protect me from this?

I understand there is a lead vest on the market, but not sure if this is effective in my case .....regards

Not sure what you mean by a magnetic environment. Most of us are told to keep magnets at least 6 inches away from our pacers/defibs but to be sure why don't you call the manufacturer of your pacer and ask them. They will probably give you a better answer after asking you a few questions about your environment. Good luck.. Sue

Not sure your environment, but here are my experiences:

I worked in a MR engineering and manufacturing plant for 6 months, within the engineering bays (or rooms where the MR magnets were kept) ferromagnetic objects could enter...including myself (ICD patient). Although I could work outside of the bays on sub components without a problem. The fact that MR magnets are so strong, meant that there were a lot of signs and reminders, as well as locked off doors, to prevent anyone from walking into a strong magnetic field. This helped me steer clear. I now work in CT, there is a lot of electrical equipment, but no magnets, and I have never had a problem.

Once I held a loudspeaker over my chest and temporarily suspended tachy treatment (I heard the long beep sound), but i just removed the speaker and I was fine, the device will reactivate automatically.
