The recent poll made me wonder if everyone knows you can "climb thru" the seatbelt and have it only around your waist. This is legal. It would be very dangerous for me to use it in the standard fashion, as it passes very close to my prominently bulging pm.

I agree with BABlocker - get yourself one of the padded things that goes on the seat belt. Works wonderfully! The problem with using the seatbelt as you describe is being thrown into or through the windshield and sustaining a head injury, spinal cord injury or dying. Is it worth the risk? Sharon
seatbelts in Australia

We are lucky here (as far as having a pacemaker) as in Australia we drive on the other side of the road and therefore the seatbelt goes over our right shoulder and so there is no problem with the pacemaker site. It would be illegal here, as well, to not use the shoulder strap. I'm mainly posting here to test out the new format. Robin

Here In Canada if you don't use the sholder strap that is provided in the car IT IS ILLEGAL. It must be worn to not get fined. I would also suggest getting a sholder pad for you belt.

You should never use the lap belt without the shoulder belt in the front seat. The airbag could really injure you!! I use a pad that wraps around the shoulder belt. You can place it where you need it. It was made for the harness of a child seat, I think. Look in the baby dept. of some stores. Hope this helps.----- Suze ------

my pacemaker is in the right side of my chest instead of left. so as long as i am the driver here in canada i am all right. that is fine but of course my husband doesn't have control. lol lol lol so he insists on driving. i just place a towel under the strap. so all in all no problem tee hee

Seatbelt Solution

Another option: I went to an automotive store and found a seatbelt pad that wraps around the seatbelt but pads the PM to protect from sudden impact. The shoulder belt will hold you in place better than just a lap belt, preventing you from a potential chest crush injury. It has worked for me for the past 1 1/2 years. In fact, I have pads for all vehicles on both sides, passenger and driver side and I slide the pad directly over my PM.
