About a hour ago my Merlin started beeping, so I reset it and it did a check. This is the first time this has every happened was just wondering if anyone else had theirs to do this and why!

The Merlin Mystery

I just read all of my instruction manuals for my Merlin and still am uncertain about its operation. I have had mine plugged in for over three months now and am not sure if it is actually doing any monitoring, other than the interrogations that are specifically scheduled and requested by the doctor. I have not heard any beeping, but with my CPAP machine hissing away and being a sound sleeper, who knows. I did wake up one night and the phone in use light was flashing, so unless the house is haunted, I guess it was the Merlin sending in a report. I have no idea if it was a routine scheduled report, or if my heart was exhibiting some trouble symptoms and the Merlin initiated some sort of a report. I have gotten the run around in trying to get either the EP or my cardiologist to give me specific dates for scheduled interrogations, each one pointing to the other one as being the source for answers. I have an appointment with the specialty clinic in two weeks and will try to get some answers. I am not sure whether the Monitor automatically initiates trouble calls or if it only reports data on the dates set by the cardiologist, or when report are manually initiated. My written instructions say to not reset the monitor via the button on the back of the device unless directed to do that. I'm sorry that I haven't been very helpful and will post again if my upcoming appointment helps clarify some questions. The other option is to call the technical support number at:
1-877-696-3754 M-F from 8 am to 8 pm Eastern time.

Thanks for your comments. The major confusion I had was whether or not the monitor was actually doing anything at times other than the scheduled checks. It is good to know that the monitor actually keeps track of things at all times when you are in range of it and will send a report and sound an alarm if a serious problem is detected.

I get a letter before Merlin does his thing.

I get a letter from my cardiologist's office about 2 weeks before my Merlin reads my pm. I had one about two weeks ago, and they say I am scheduled for another in June. They told me it only reads my pm about 4 times per year, and if there is a problem, I am supposed to get a call from EP's office. If there is an emergency, they said it would sound some type of alarm and I was supposed to call doctor's emergency number asap! Hope it never does that.

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
