Wanting To Know

Hi everyone, this is the first time for me to post anything, so here goes. I have had my pacemaker/defib for about a year and a half. No problems, it is a St.Jude model. On Thurs afternoon I was driving and became real dizzy and then felt an eruption in my chest that I have never felt before. Went to the hospital and had the info from device downloaded and it had shocked me. What I want to know from others is how long if any did you feel the affects of it? I am still quite sore and still feel pain in that area today. Still a little anxious about it. Doctors said everything was ok heart wise. Please could someone help me on this question? Thank you.

Pain

A shock like that is quite a jolt to the muscles in your chest. Like any such thing it takes a few days to recover. How long depends on how you recover. We are all different.

Any way, be happy you had the device. It is better to be shocked than wake up after an accident.

I'm so glad that worked well for you. It is amazing how many lives that saves.

Have you ever seen someone who has paddles put on them to save their lives in an ER? Their bodies jump.

You have a miracle inside your chest. Muscle pain can take awhile to get better.

I would like to thank everyone who gave me some answers about the recovery time from a shock. It has been a week and 3 days and I still can feel it at times and to conchfm , I could not even be able to know what a shock 11 times is like. One time was enough for me, and yes it does play on your mind. Im still thinking to myself it is going to do it again or worse and it is an everyday thought I cant seem to get out of my head. I try not to let it drag me down to much. It is a miracle that this is possible to help the heart out like this and I thank God everyday, but it is very scary at times!!

It has been 19 months since I was shocked while driving. Not once but 11 times! Delivery to ER via ambulance squad. Checked it out- MALFUNCTION. I have never gotten that day out of my mind, and I can still feel the shocks in my mind TODAY. I use to travel, cruises, etc., and drive 45,000 miles a year. Haven't done crap since that day. I am not pacing full time, just part time. All doctors, everybody on this website , say to do normal things. The mind is strange thing. I am ready to take my chances and have the defibrillator turned out, and leave PM running normal.
