Got my pacer replaced after 7 years on Dec 8th. Leads were good, so I don't have to endure that extra agony. A little sore at the implant site, and I can't sleep because I keep trying to go to my left side, and it hurts too much. Otherwise, it was not that bad of an experience. Dr. says I can go back to my recumbent trike in 2 weeks, and that I can use the treadmill for exercise. My advice to all - KEEP MOVING. It hurts, but keep moving the arm so you don't stiffen up. Get up and walk, don't lay around.
I'm a second generation pacer patient, meaning, my mother, my aunts, uncle and cousins on my mother's side all have this problem. One estimate is about 20 of us have this condition. I watched my mother take a woe is me attitude, not move after surgery, and it took longer to recuperated. Remember, everyday this little device keeps you going, so make the most of it.

Why not on the recumbant bike?

Unless you do something on the bike that puts a strain on the pacer side I don't see any reason why you can't use it. Doctors come up with strange instructions sometimes.
I'm probably going to be due for a replacement in the next year or so.

I am not planning on letting any of this shorten my life. I am planning on living a long happy battery operated life. You never know maybe it will keep me alive longer. I sure know one thing I would have been dead before starting school without it.
great attitude

You have a terrific attitude! I was back on the bike sooner than two weeks after my last replacement, but I'm not too good at following drs directions when I feel good and they don't meld with what I wanna do :o)
Try hugging a pillow with your left arm, it'll keep you from flipping over on that side when you sleep.
