Hi
I've searched about this topic and there isn't one postings on 2012
I'm a 16 years old pacemaker user, and still hoping for recovery
(I'm having a pacemaker because a Bradycardia - low heart rate)
Recently my mom has being told by her clinic doctor that STEM CELLS might rebuild weak/dead heart muscle. My mom is curious but the doctor only knew some STEM CELL's patient but not for heart muscle, only for beauty needs (anti-aging)
Of course I'm looking for the "rebuilding" heart muscle, because I'm having an AV Block that was caused by virus .
I would like to know if anyone ever experience this stem cells.?
Some source at the web said bone marrow might be one of the cells that can rebuild the heart muscle.
And does anyone know the links on how does the stem cells works?
LOTS OF THANKS ! :)
have a nice day

Yes, Stem Cell Treatment Show Promising Signs

Hi vangolden,
I'm responding to your question on stem cell research. I know of two different forms of stem cell research currently in clinic trials that deal with heart failure.
The first type of clinical trial deals with stem cells derived from bone marrow. This form of treatment has not been very promising.
The second type of clinical trial deals with stem cell derived from the heart patient's own cardiac cells. The cardiac cells are taken via biopsy, purified and injected back into the patient. This procedure is VERY promising and could not only be a treatment, but quite possibly a cure.
Currently, Institutions such as the Cleveland Clinic, John Hopkins and University of Louisville are doing research in this area. Please visit the site I have pasted below for more information:

It is my firm belief that this form of treatment will be available by the time you are 21.
Stay strong!!!
Thanks :)

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
one day maybe

Hi vangolden ... lots of studies are being done with stem cells and the future could be exciting.
As you are only 16 you may benefit at some time in the future , but routine use of stem cells will only come after years of clinical trials. Keep your eyes and ears open and if ever studies are being done in your local cardiology research units , who knows they may ask you to participate.
Best wishes
Ian
