I just had my PM put in July 15, Had stitches taken out yesterday. I still have this feeling that there is something on my chest, feels like a rubber band pulling against my chest. When I walk it still hurts. Nurse practitioner said this is normal and will subside. Is this normal? I don't want to feel like this all the time. does the feeling of having something tight around chest ever go away?

I had my PM implanted last may 24th after i had my tricuspid valve in heart replaced on May 18th, so now it been 2 months with my PM, i did feel tightness on skin of chest for about 2 weeks then the tightness went away, my soreness only lasted a month, now i dont feel anymore pain and starting to forget i have a pacemaker in me. I am now doing normal activties like swimming, bike rides and walking and weight training, it dont bother me. so it depends on each person, some ppl feel better in shorter time while some people take longer time.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
Healing

A lot depends on your body and where the pacer was implanted. It is a large enough device that it takes up space under your skin. If it is implanted right under the skin and you are thin skinned it is bound to stretch the area for a while. In this case it can take a while for things to subside. If it is implanted under a muscle it will put pressure in it for a while.
Healing from any injury can take 2-3 weeks for inflammation to disappear, which can make the area painful with movement. As an example I cut my arm on a sharp edge of my Jeep bumper about 10 days ago. It is just now moving out of the sore stage and into the itching stage. It was fairly deep so I expect it will be 3 weeks before it is totally healed.
best wishes,
frank
As far as the tight around the chest feeling, yes it will go away. It may take as much as 6 months before you totally forget you have it though.
