Does anybody wonder....

I have to back track abit beofre I get into the title/subject line. I have had a heart condition since birth, and ended up having two open heart surgies as a child. I always knew that I would need a third - it was only a question of when. Back in February of 2000, I collapsed at work - ended up going to Emergency, and ended up being admitted to the Hospital where I was told the next day by my Cardiologist that I needed a pm. I had one implanted within days. In September of that year, I had my third open heart surgery. I have been doing fine, living life to it's fullest, plugging away at work, etc, etc.. I was not finding myself thinking about the pm much. Then the recall....I had my pm changed for that reason. I am finding now, that I am thinking about this pm and can it just die on me, and then what? I find myself thinking about it lots - especially as I am going to sleep. Does anyone else have this problem, and how are you getting past it. I am down to seeing my Cardiologist once a year (next appointment is January 4th infact), and I only have to go to the pm clinic once a year (use to be every 6 months). That should be telling me that I am doing okay as I am sure they would want to see me more if I was not - but; that does not help the wonder and the worry..... any suggestions?

Suzzy,
I think your feelings are very common. I had my pacemake/leads replaced 13 years ago because my leads were recalled. I did think a lot about it like you are doing now. However, as time went by, I thought about it less and less. Then the only time I thought about it was when I needed to go for my pacer check. Soon you will start to think about it less and less. I have been told that the pacemaker will not just quit on you...so I have to have faith.
Take care,
Donna

i have read that it does not just die. it takes a long time for the battery to run down and you have checkups every year to tell you when to change the pacemaker. so don't worry jessie

You know you're wired when...

You always have something close to your heart.
