thumping

Hiccups?

Hi there, I had my ICD installed in London, Ontario back in May and my Doctor called it hiccups, I thought it felt more like spasms, any ways when I went for my 3 month check up with the people who installed it the nurse adjusted it on the computer and I haven't had the problem since! I don't know if this is the same as your problem but I do remember it was very uncomfortable when I lade on either side.

I also had hiccups or thumping when I lay on my left side or eat or drank something. This was caused by damaged leads and was cured when both leads were replaced. I understand that the impulse was shorting to a nerve and then tracking to the diaphragm where it caused it to spasm.

Thanks everybody for comments. So I,m not alone. I went for 6 weeks check up on 5th Dec and they almost retained the adjustments and findings where they were on my second visit. I have not lost my weight but trying to shed myself and brought down 15 pounds from 168 in Aug to 153 pounds today as advised by a doctor that the less the weight the lesser burden on heart pumping. I,m on my regular exercise again without problem, app 4 km daily walk in 40 minutes plus simple yoga exercises for app 25 minutes, without any problem. Only thumping or hiccups. So I,m trying to adjust myself with it as it seems now part of the game. Otherwise I,ll have to go again to surgery, which presently I dont prefer. Thanks again as now I know there r so many with me who care for me too. I,m 71 now with first heart attack as back as 1979.

I'm 5 weeks past surgery and have this thumping just below my left ribs which is the side the PM is on. It thumps at various times in ANY position, its annoying but does not hurt. What concerns me is the achiness in my heart about 80% of the time and some sudden sharp pains. Another thing is when I raise my right arm to do work it makes me feel "bad" like a heaviness in my heart or like it is having a hard time pumping the blood. I know I cant raise my left arm up as yet, I have in my sleep and have woken up with my arm over my head which is not good. I'm hoping nothing is loose. Having some pain where the PM is this week where it had been better but no signs of swelling or redness.I dont see the doctor till the 27th. I also have skipped beats a lot more recently and that hurts, Sometimes for hours and it goes away for a few and then returns. Any advice on all this?

Sorry that is 4 weeks past surgery. Seems like forever.. since I'm not doing so well.

HI Bugwit. Just gone thru ur posting. I felt the same in the beginning. Thumping,or hiccups while walking fast, lying on right side or bowing forward. Feeling some machine going on while walking medium and thumping while walking medium fast , but never felt pain. Achiness. May be as it is only four weeks and also we guys have some psychologicl impression as somehing is changed and we are on machine now. yet I did not hesitate to contact my hospital after one week and then again after one week.They adjusted the power to LV from 3.5 to 2.1 and then 1.5 and explained that as LV insertion is very difficult task in some cases it does not sit at exactly correct place and may settle close to diaphraum or may be patients diaphraum is naturally close to the place where LV wire ends. Thus the thumping. Patient has either to go with it or go again for the procedure which again has one or other risk with it. So I decided to go with it and gradually getting used to it. After that I still feel thumping but not severe to unbearable and only when (mostly) I lay on left or back or bow down while standing. I have started my routine works and I feel that in most ways I am much much better , but some times my heart reminds me that I,m realy sick and working with machine,s help. And I think it is natural u feel this thing. Remember that u r still in fifth wek now and I,m sure u will improve.Of course dont hesitate to consult ur EP (Electro physiologist doctor) who may adjust it and u may feel better.

I,m trying out another thing. I used to practice some simple yoga exercises(which helped me a lot in keeping myself active in last three years) and one of these called I suppose ( not dead sure of name ) kapaal Baati.,( throwing out ur normal breath alongwith pulling ur diaphraum or upper part of stomach upwards simultaneouly while concentrating on ur some body part like forehead , throat or heart ,in sitting position ) had helped me much in past to heal some minor heart problems at least two times. Now I have started this again while concentrating on this LV wire end place or above abdomen. Let us see if I feel some difference or improvement. ( I have felt a very slight improvement in five days but may be it just my feeling).

So the best advice I can give u to consult first ur doctor and hopefully by adjustment it may improve if not gone altogether.

Thumping

I am feeling a tapping like someone has a wooden popsicle stick and is tapping on the inside of my sternum. Happens mostly at night when I try to side sleep either side. It’s most disconcerting but doesn’t hurt. I don’t sleep well because of it... every time I turn in my sleep I’m worried it will tap and it feels like something is wrong.

I’ve had my medtronic pacemaker for just a month now. They did Xrays and though I haven’t viewed them... they claim the leads haven’t moved.

I told the cardiologist’s office and they don’t even address it nor does the rep from the pacemaker company. No one said: “yeah that sometimes happens”, or “wow we have never heard of that”, or “can you recreate that so we can observe that?”. And then I found this forum. Will be good to show them this post in my next visit. I talked to another family member with a different company’s pacer and she said she has never experienced that. And then we talked cheaper meds from Canada and Brazil🤭.
