Funny or Not, It was Justice On The Spot

The following is from a story in the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN on 1-11-08 By Claire Osborn

Defibrillator jolt scared off attacker.

A 60-year-old woman's cardiac defibrillator saved her from being sexually assaulted, according to an arrest warrant
released by the Austin Police Department.

When the North Austin woman awoke in her bed, a teenage boy was tying some thing around her neck and hands, saying,"You know you want it; just let me do it," according to the warrant.

As she began struggling, her defibrillator- an electronic device implanted in a person's chest to correct abnormal heart rhythms-went off. "The shock of the device frightened the suspect and he fled."

A passerby was able to give a description of the suspect to the police and he has been arrested and charged with attempted rape.

Hello Cathryn & Jessie,

Thank you all for asking about Dot. Her next cat-scan scheduled for March. I'm not sure of the date. I guess I'm playing ostrich by not even asking her for the date yet. I can say that the anxiety is taking a toll on her. It had better be good news. Will let you know the results.

Now for one other little tidbit about the news article that I left out. The would-be-rapist is 14 years old.

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
