pacemaker-defib and knee replacement surgery

I need both my knees replaced im in my early 70s I had an ejection fraction of around 26% when I had my pacemaker-defib
put in jan of 2012...Im feeling really good and if my knees didnt
hurt I think I would feel terific.but both knees need replaced..
Has anyone after 4 months of having a crt-d put in had knee replacement surgery...I would love to have both done at once
since they are both very crooked..please if anyone has done this please respond...Everything seems normal I have lots of energy Only thing is sometimes it seems like the pacemaker is
standing out more than others...what would cause that?..Other times its almost flat and you cant see it....hope someone has some answers..thanks

I had knee replacements

by janetinak - 2012-05-18 02:05:29

about 2 yrs after the PM. I did not have them done at the same time, 6 wks apart. Ortho wanted to wait 6 months & I wish I could have but my sister came to stay with me & couldn't stay 6 months. I have heard of a lot of folks who did them together but it would be interesting to hear if anyone had the situation you mentioned. I am soooo glad I had my knees done. And as glad that I had my PM done. Both have helped mme enjoy my life greatly. I am about your age now but PM was in 2000 & knees done in 2002.

Hope this helps,

Janet

I had hip relacement.

I didn't have my knees, but I had my right hip replaced. I know this is not your question, but, between my ICD implant and my hip surgery, the hip was easier to handle. And I love it!!! I was bone on bone, it was so painful...the surgery was a godsend. I didn't have the emotional feeling with my hip. I think you'll be fine and glad you had it done. I had my hip done in 2007 and ICD May 8th this year. I am fifty, and 100% better since my ICD implant.

I would think having them together would be very difficult. That is a lot of surgery. Your arm would and both knees would be incapacitated. I just got my implant, so maybe I don't really know, but my ICD sticks out far and sometimes is flat. Hmmm...

Much luck to you!

Janet and Elle Thank you for your replys...They were helpful ...I think I have figured out why my pacemaker-defib is sticking out more..I have lost about 10 lbs..and of course it shows in the shoulders area...Im not to big
anyway so Im sure that has made a difference....Im going to try and have knee surgery this summer...I did have a hip replacement about 2 years ago and its great..
course I didnt have a icd at that time....Losing even 10 lb has helped my knees but still bone on bone...thanks again

You are so welcome Anniesu! You sound very upbeat and positive. That is so refreshing...That attitude will surely help when you have your knees done.. IMO that goes a long way toward healing faster. I've had many, many surgeries, so I know a little something about that.

Please keep your progress posted. You'll be on my mind..

Continued health, and feeling good!
