Pace maker

Hi I got my pace maker because of fribs and prolasped mitrial valve. I can feel this in my chest beating and it drives me nuts. Also if i lift anything my heart races will this always be like this? I got the surgery on April 6th and I have been to the hospital once since in a emergency because of skipping or racing? Is this going to get better?

Hello,

I'll make some guesses based on what you say. Number one is I think you need a dr and technicians that more knowledgeable about PMs than the ones you have.

That is not the PM you are feeling, but is your heart beating. Theses beats are caused by the electrical impulse from the PM and the power of these need to be turned down. It is a simple adjustment or someone that knows what the are doing. You should never feel the heart beat caused by the PM anymore than you did felt your heart beating before you got the PM. If your heart beat shifts into high gear when you lift anything that sounds like the rate response needs some adjusting. The RR is supposed to increase the heart beat when we perform any activity that increases the load demand on the heart rate. The RR can be adjusted so as to not be so sensitive and it sounds like that is what you need. The skip beats or racing is not uncommon with a new PM and should go away. If it doesn't, a good dr should be able to help you with medications.

Good luck,

Smitty

Hearing heart beat

Sometimes I do hear or feel my heart beat but other times I don't feel or heAr anything. Like Smitty says the dr or tech can change and adjust the pm. It also might be yr own anxiety. I have my own challenges with that.
