I had a pacemaker implanted about 20 months ago. Before the pacemaker, I was swimming laps a couple times a week. I gave up the lap swimming but was wondering if I could safely resume this relaxing activity?

You can swim! You only needed to cut back the first 6 weeks. If you have been cleared for activity, you should be able to do anything you want now short of full contact sports.

Check with your Dr. First, but my guess is swim away. Sounds like great cardio.
Have a happy New Years.

I lap swam for decades before getting my pacemaker. The doc said I couldn't swim for 6 months. I was diligent and allowed 6 months for recovery. I'm back to my weekly routine .... and even do shoulder/back stretches. However
I've read to avoid the butterfly stroke.
I do it all!

In the early days I was careful, now I thrash around doing the back stroke, get thrown off airbeds by my kids, butterfly shouldn't cause a problem, try it and see!
You know you're wired when...
You have the perfect reason to show off your chest.

My pacemaker was installed in 1998 and I have not felt better. The mental part is the toughest.

You should, by this time, be able to do just about anything you did before PM. Many people on this forum swim, You can check with your drsif that would make you more comfortable. Happy swimming. Jean
