Extraction

Hello all
My pm is being ex planted leads and all on Friday the 14. I have researched the whole London market for specialists in lead extraction and have a lot of info if anyone needs it. I will hopefully report total success after the op. I have to stay in hospital for the duration the infection clears and then have a replant. I have been through every emotion under the sun. It's been a tough time but I need to one out positive. If anyone can share how they remained positive in the face of such a situation I would be pleased to hear. I am looking for as much positive energy to take into the op room with me. Thank you all shal

Lead Removal

Hi shal, Yup, I know the feeling !! I've been down that road but really had more mental pain that actual surgery & recovery. I had infection going with 3rd, 4th, & 5th implant with this last being the worst as both site & my 2nd pair leads were infected. I was very active as always but under Medicare I had to spend 7 weeks at a care facility. Yup, wife had just retired from being cardiac nurse & couldn't lay a hand on me as far as doing daily IV's administering my Vancomycin to clean up the infection. Well I lucked out as they had a new Chef & the food was great.
In my case it was an overkill with antibiotic as I still had my original pair of leads which could not be removed even with laser. Years back some quack doing site restoration pulled on the leads, cut them & let them go down the vein. At test (TEE) was done & found (vegetation) around the heart wall which is infection besides the 2nd pair they removed. It would have been open heart to remove original pair of leads.
Again all this was done with complete comfort & 7weeks was not that bad as they left me sneak out for a few hours with a 10 minute drive home when I wanted it.
Good Luck !!
DonB

good luck!!

Coping

Thank you both for your comments. Its very comforting to have other people understand and relate to the mental agony that needs to be processed and the emotional ups and downs. I too hope its all a thing of the past come Friday evening; with 2 young kids life must go on. With thanks to everyone. I also saw the specialist recommended to my by Ian....so this network has been great. I will be in touch post op.
