Newbie

Hi everyone,

Wanted to introduce myself. My name is Erin, I'm 34, had my pacemaker implanted May 3rd due to brady. Still dealing with some swelling, pulling and heaviness in my chest from the device. I'm also having some pain in my left arm. Anyone else have that problem?

Look forward to hearing from you!

Hello Erin, I'm Susan. I would like to extend warm hearted welcome to you. Yes, to answer your question it does take some time for the swelling to go down. Please be patient with yourself... it will be awhile before you are ready to get back into your full swing, but it will happen!

Take care and please know you are not alone.

It will go down

Hi Erin,

Yes, it will go down. Mine swelling was huge, about the size of a baseball (and I'm a small lady). About the time the doctor was going to go in and remove the blood, it went down a lot, almost over night. It is still pretty swollen (it's been almost 4 weeks) but is going down a little more every few days now. Hang in there, as it might take a little longer for you too.

The pulling and heaviness is weird to get used to. Once you start moving around more and the swelling goes down, it might help there. Just make sure to contact your doctor if you feel like it's slipping or moving around a lot, just in case.

Welcome and good luck!

Takes some getting used to

I have had my pacemaker for 1 1/2 years now, and I still feel heaviness and pulling in my pacemaker area, especially if I lie down with my hands behind my head. It might have something to do with physical build. I'm 5'1" and around 100 lbs. It just takes some getting used to. As far as pain goes, if the incision is not healed, I think it's natural to feel pain. I slept with a pillow under my pacemaker shoulder for a couple weeks because if I laid flat, it felt like my incision was pulling open.

You know you're wired when...

You can finally prove that you have a heart.
