almost passed out at gym!

Today I went to my EP dr they checked my pacer and said everything looked ok was still pacing 70% of the time and I was able to convince them raise my upper rate on the pacer f rom 130 to 145 so when I went to the gym my HR could go a little higher. I asked about my dizziness, palpatations, and shortness of breath so they gave me device called a HeartCard to record what my heart is doing when I have these symptoms as he is not sure. I decided to go ahead and go to the gym tonight as a last minute thing with a friend and while I was on treadmill I had some chest discomfort which I have never had before so I got off the treadmill and went on the elipicles and was going pretty slow and after only a couple of minutes I got real dizzy so I went and sat down on a chair..that did not help I was on the verge of passing out, I was sweating from head to toe in a cold clamy sweat, was seeing spots so I put my head between my legs as that seemed to be the only thing that helped a little. This lasted I would say about 20 minutes or so. My friend that was with me was an ICU nurse was worried and wanted to call 911 but I convinced her not to and of course I did not have my heartcard with me at the time. Now after being home for a couple of hours I'm still not feeling good, feeling very tired and still a little dizzy..this has never happened to me before at the gym but haven't been there since these symptoms started. Has anyone had anything like this happen before?

Listen to your friend! (and take your heartcard next time) Odds are it's just the settings but why take chances??

Call Your Doctor Or Go To The ER

I'm interested in seeing what others say, but I think you should call your doctor or go to the ER. If possible, have the PM tech or EP doc that made your change(s) meet you there to see if changing the setting(s) back make you feel any better.

If you go to the ER, they can do other tests to rule out anything else going on, just in case it's not a setting issue.

I have had a couple of really bad experiences with PM setting changes. Most of them have been great, but not all of them. A wrong setting for you can make you feel like total "you know what". If that's the case, when they change them back to where they were, you feel great again! Sometimes, right away.

Good luck to you!

Exercise induced symptoms

Daisy0388:

I have had my PM for 3 years and recently had my settings tweaked for better athletic effort, as I am paced 100% of the time.

I had the exact same thing happen to me at the gym this past Friday.

I was finishing a treadmill run when I got burning in my chest, with extreme shortness of breath, to the point where I also passed out.

I went by ambulance to the ER where they interrogated my PM. It showed multiple PVCs which went into V-tach (pulse of 248).

Now I'm scheduled for an ablation and possible ICD implant.

This is serious business.

I hope this helps.
