Surgery tomorrow

I am heading into surgery tomorrow so they can change out my pacemaker from a single chamber to a double. I will be also changing brands, I'm going from a boston scientific to a medtronic. My question is how will my recovery be and will I have restrictions for my left arm since they will be putting in a new lead in my ventricle, and also if I will be as sore as I was the first time. They are having me stay overnight in the hospital so they can monitor me. In jan they will be going back in to ablate my av node so this is kind of the first step. I would appreciate any input!! Thanks

Why change brands?

Hi Daisy!

If you have a slow sinus node, I'd suggest not to go from Boston Scientific to a Medtronic, because the Boston Scientific has the better rate response, and you'll need that.

I'd definitely ask your cardio before surgery: 1. Why does he want to change brands? 2. Has he taken into consideration the rate response function?

Good luck with the surgery! It will be very much like your first one, but since the pacer pocket is already there, it might be a little easier and recovery might be a little faster.

Best wishes
Inga
