pacemaker

Hi,

Can anybody tell me if the stomach pacemaker works.  I have just been told I have to have one fitted.  The reason is my stomach does not work; my food will not digest.

I need to know how long I will be in the hospital and what is the recovery time.  My food will not digest and stays in my stomach up to 36 hrs.

i got my pacemaker upper left corner near left arm i had my pacemaker since march 12 in flordia about 3 week until i went back to missouri i do a quick caller to look for doctor in missiouri that cover pacemaker with my insurance right before i leave florida i sign all paper work to get all file send to my doctor in missiouri now i have pace maker and carelink device so i check check it and send to my doctor any where i at ..

Hi Shirley,

Yes a pacemaker works! We call them heart pacemakers although they are very important in helping the stomach do its job. Briefly, when we eat the stomach has a short time to do its processing of the food we have consumed. To do this processing the stomach muscle must have additional blood flow to be able to do its work, just like our leg muscles must have additional blood flow when we start to run. To get this additional blood our heart rate increases when we eat, or run. If your heart rate is too slow and does not increase as it should the pacemaker will increase the heart rate.

I am on my 2nd PM and with both of them I came home the day they were implanted. Some people have to stay overnight. Recovery time is a few days to a few weeks. All that amounts to is a reduction in your physical activity. Your Dr will tell what restrictions you will have. As for the PM working, absolutely it will. And it starts working when it is implanted and never stops.
