Question from a newbie

Hello all. I had a pacemaker/defibrillator 'installed' back in April. I have been feeling better and my Dr. is happy with my progress. I asked him last week at my last check up about the pain I am still feeling around the unit itself. He said it will still hurt for a little while.

Here's what I'm feeling...I feel a 'mosquito bite' type of feeling that lasts for long periods of time. I also have a real bad burning itch around it. The muscle hurts all the time.

My question is, how long is this going to last? The burning feeling was particularly bad today and I'm concerned that it may not be normal.

Thank you in advance.

Implanting a pacemaker does require some invasive surgery especially to make the pocket to hold it. If for cosmetic reasons you had it implanted under a muscle or breast they have disturbed more sensitive tissue.

The things to watch for at this point in time is inflammation, any open wound, or a fever. They would indicate that there might be some sort of infection.

Same Thing

I had my ICD implanted May 8th of this year, so a little more than 8 weeks ago. It feels MUCH longer than that. I was under the impression that by this time (the scar is nice and flat) no swelling or anything, but I have been feeling a "stingey/burning" sensation and it still hurts (not bad) though all the time. And it's itchy and sore NOT on the scar, but on the skin around the unit where you can see the outline of it sticking out.

A lot of people on here said by this time they had no pain or discomfort. I guess everybody heals differently and some of us are more sensitive to pain in certain areas on our body. It's funny 8 weeks after my C-section I was fine, but this is taking much longer! I'm feeling the exact same thing as you. I understand, believe me you are not alone. I think we are okay. Just taking a bit more time. Hang in....

We will heal together.
