Sports Actiivity/6 Months Anniversary

Today is my 6 month anniversary and things are going very well. After a few adjustments to start with I hardy notice I even have a pacemaker, except for the small bump in my chest.

I am doing all the activities I have always done and not holding back. I even went snow skiing a couple weeks ago at Bristol Mountain in NY. They have one run we took that’s two miles long. I was a little concerned about skiing after reading some of to postings on PM Club, but had no issues. It was a family trip and now my 6 year old granddaughter wants to go every week.

I’ve also done well with my regular exercise. I worked out 28 days in January. I have even broken 3 world records on my exercycle. Of course they are just my records but calling them world records makes me feel good. Did 1 ½ hour last week, went 28.3 miles and burned 901 calories. What has taken the longest to come back is my weight lifting. However I’m getting back close to my pre PM days.

Also been biking outside when I can, golfing, playing tennis, been jet skiing, hiking, wrestling with my boy, you name it I do it.

Been reading a lot lately about running. I ran for 40 years, had to stop because of a knee injury and arthritis in my foot. That why I took up biking. Since I got the PM, I have changed my riding to include more easy days but longer intervals and now do fartlek type training on my exercycle and bike. I think that is what has given me improvement so I could reach new world records. Might want to try it.

Guess I have been pretty lucky. But I think the most important thing is to remain active. Don’t let a machine that helps run your body get you down. Thank God that mankind has developed so many things that can prolong quality life. I know I have a lot of things to live for and I plan to be around for a long time and participate in everything I can. And more important do them with my family and friends.

I hope and pray that everyone in this club will remain positive, remain strong and lead long and healthful lives.

Jerry

.......................at the six month point you really have staged an incredible comeback,..in fact just reading your posting has left me a bit breathless !!

Ignore all those who advocate 'taking it easy'..just go for it..what do they know ??

A little story to 'join us up',.. in my little village in the UK we had a rich benefactor called Harry Coulby. He left the village to make his fortune in Cleveland Ohio. He had a very successful shipping company on the Great Lakes. In our lovely Village Hall...paid for by Mr Coulby we have a plaque with a mounted wall light from one of his Great Lakes ships. Every day I drive past the Churchyard with the tomb of his very own forebears.

On Monday I will meet, at a Parish Meeting ,a lovely lady who's Grand Father has his name on the foundation stone of the Village Hall.

Cliches like..'Small World'..somehow become less and less surprising....

Keep on doing the business, gleesue...
