Hello everyone...
In a nutshell I had lead displacement at first checkup after pacemaker implant.
Probably not my fault but who knows eh!
So it's been 10 days now since new lead in place and I am not doing any heavy jobs like hoovering but now I am not sore I am doing general housework and things, but I had a thought...surely the action of shrugging my shoulder is the same as lifting it above shoulder height? (I never shrugged after implant but did so the other day!)
So I checked online and found one fact sheet where you were advised not to shrug, or reach behind!
I was never warned of this, and someone on this site even advises shrugging and rotating as exercises to be done soon after op to prevent frozen shoulder!
Soooo much different info and advice......I think I will try to get a checkup done BEFORE my 5 week one!
My doc also prefers no driving at all till after first check! (what a flipping pain!)
:-)

Hi there. Did you suddenly feel that something had changed following your lead displacement? e.g. tireness, headache etc., Thanks for the info.

instructions

Ask 10 drs, you'll get 10 sets of instructions! When I got my first one, I wasn't given any instructions. When I had a lead replaced a couple of years ago my instructions were pretty much in line with the average here- 6 weeks no lifting, no raising arm higher than shoulder level. I've heard as little as a week, as long as 3 months for full arm movement and lifting.
From what I understand, after the first day or two the odds of displacing a lead drop drastically so the rest of the time is just precaution.
The reason it's important to move your arm is so your shoulder doesn't freeze. People can spend months in therapy getting over a frozen shoulder.
No driving is pretty common if it's your first pm, don't want to risk passing out.
Most everyone here is a patient, not a medical professional. We pass on what we've been through, what we've been told, what we've seen. Always go by your dr's advice if it differs.

Lead displacement

Thanx TraceyE, much as I thought :-)
To Jen....for me I didn't notice that lead was displaced as it was actually still working for me but was just in wrong position or something, so it was using up way too much voltage!
I think it depends on your individual situation as to what you might feel if lead was not working (rather than mine working overtime!) so if you had pacer to stop you fainting or re lots of irregularities then you would be able feel if all those symptoms came back suddenly one day and know that something was wrong.
