Exercise

Hi everyone. Have had 2 ablations and a Pulmonary Vein Isolation (last ablation and PVI were a little over a year ago).

Recently I upped my exercise program to a 2 mile walk prior to an 8 mile bike ride. Twice (10 days apart at exactly the same spot during my walk) my heart has jumped from 95 exercise rate to 111 and 116. The last time the happened I had strong PVC prior to the event. The event doesn't last long only about 30 seconds before coming back down to my exercise rate of 95 (I keep walking when this occurs only slower). Any explanations?

When I work out my h/r monitor can get "weird "if I am sweating or the belt gets a little loose.......Are you on any beta blockers? ... as they can play havoc with your sinus node. It may be that your heart skipped a beat and was catching up. This may be a common with some people but best to check out with doc on treadmill......Try to check your pulse manually in the meantime.........

I take amiodarone - 200 mg, bisoprolol 5 mg, ramipril 7.5 mg and digoxin 0.125 mg (although I will be dropping the digoxin soon). The skipped heart beat (what I call PVC) was quite strong. I have a dual lead ICD and am paced 75% of the time (not surprisingly with the meds I am on). Is it possible that the bouncing while I am walking is the culprit?

Yes. You are overdoing it. Full stop. A 2 mile walk is all you should be doing. Its no good pretending you are an athlete when you are not. You need to pace yourself very carefully when you have a heart condition. Thats my opinion for what its worth. Cheers Peter

I agree with your comments certainly.

The odd thing is I am only 52. The cardiomyopathy was diagnosed at 48. My EF has improved from an initial 38 to 45 and after the events I spoke about I can go on the exercise bike and ride 8 miles with resistance with no problems. I wonder if it is the bouncing while I walk. I do run down hill for about 30 yards during the walk.
