heart monitor

I had a pacemaker implanted about a year ago. Does anyone know if using the exercise bike's handles at the gym that gives you the heart rate interfere with the functioning of the pacemaker?

The monitor handles on my treadmill reset intermittently when I use them. Doesn't seem to bother Sparky, though.

I use them all the time....no problem.

I also use a Polar HR monitor.

The monitor will not interfere with the pm, but the pm may interfere with the monitor. I can't get a reading, it says 0. Others find it reads too high because it's picking up the pacing spikes as well as the heart beats. And others don't have problems with it.

Thank you

Thank you for your responses...I actually contacted St Jude Medical and they pretty much told me that my device should be ok while using the heart monitor at the gym.

I have a bike with a heart rate on handles. They do not interfere at all. Good luck on your bike. No excuses ....lol !

monitors that use electrical signals are often fooled
by counting both the PM's pulses and your own heart's
pulses. A few HRM's use LED's to measure the the light
variation in the skin to accurately determine HR, but they're expensive. I agree that HRM's don't affect your PM

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
