31 years old , cricket player

Hi all. I'm 31 and received a medtronic dual pacemaker on the 6th of October. It has been 3 weeks and i already feel almost normal again. I still have some way to go before i can exercise again. I play cricket, and my team started their new season 3 weeks before my op. I played 2 games, but now have to sit out. I would like to know if i'll ever be able to play again, as i have done so all my life at national levels. I'm also a golfer and at 31 my body is in very good shape physically.

Hi Craig .. there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't play cricket, golf, tennis, soccer( or any sport you can name) at as high a level as you did pre - PM. The only limiting factor is the inability to fully raise the arm in the first few weeks after implant.

I imagine cricket is similar to golf where it may take up to 8 weeks before you feel happy with your full range of movement.

Best of luck

Ian

that's good news!

Thanks Ian,that is soothing news. I cannot imagine having to give up any of my sports. Will have to recover properly first though

Once you heal, you should be able to do anything sport you want. If you are doing anything high impact where there is a risk of taking a direct hit to the device, you might want to look into padded shirts.

I live in an area that is HUGE for golf so my dr has separate instructions for golfers. Limit arm movement for 6 weeks- no heavy weights, nothing above shoulder level. Lifting and movement is ok after 6 weeks but no full golf swing for 3 months. After that, anything is ok.

Did you know there have been Olympians with pacemakers? And professional athletes. Behave until you are healed but after that, go for it.

thanks Tracey.
