Should I call the doc

Hello I,m very new to this. I had surgery on dec 20th.. Have had some really hard thumping in my sternum so hard you can see my shirt rise.... That has calmed down. Today I,m having sharp pains in the incision site.. Is this normal.. My husband said the site looks good, however there is a small area that is red and maybe a stitch is still there.. Not sure..

Yes! Call your Dr.....

I had my pacemaker implanted on 12/17. Did not have any of the problems you are describing. It may be that your pacemaker setting needs to be adjusted. And a round of antibiotics would clear up the redness in your stitches. My Dr. sent me home on antibiotics for 7 days. The only redness I experienced was from the tape and bandages. They recommended Benadryl for itching and Cortisone creme as well. I hope you feel better soon!

haven't you called the Dr yet?

Anything that is persistent this long deserves medical attention. All sorts of nasty things could be occurring that you know nothing about. You can start w/ a hidden infection - & go from there with difficulties. If for nothing other than peace of mind - but there's probably more to it than that It's unusual to hur much longer than a week.

When in doubt, always call. Better safe than sorry. Sharp pains are part of the nerves knitting back together but any sudden changes should be checked out.

The thumping happened several times again yesterday.. I know I said I feel it in my sternum,, but it is more in my upper stomach.. like diaphram.. The thumping may go on for a couple of beats or sometimes for several minutes.. the sharp pain in the incision has stopped.. will defininatley call Doc tomorow..
