New Pacer Too

I received my pacemaker two days ago, so also feeling a bit on the sore side also. Hopefully will wear off over a week or so. Mine is a dual chamber pacer so maybe not a good comparison. Hope you & and I get a rapid recovery from the procedure.

Your cardiologist should be able to tell you what is allowable for you to do. Take it easy, it will take some time to adapt, you will be fine eventually.

All the best to you.

What did you expect?

You lost a knife fight w/ a expert. You are going to hurt for a while.

Supposing you'd fallen on a broken beer bottle - wouldn't you expect that to hurt for a while?

Asking how long we hurt is like asking "How long is a piece of string?". I hurt for a day & then was completely off even Tylenol.

I walked out of the hosp, stopped at a Home Depot, bought a bunch of lumber, stopped at a Cracker Barrel for lunch; next day I was working on the house we were building. We are ALL different. I know that is not the answer you were looking for.

Some people hurt for a couple days; some for a couple weeks; some live in misery for quite a while. All depends on the person. Aso can depend on how much difficulty the surgeon had doing the inpant - also whether you had the ICD placed sub-cutaneously or below a muscle.

Don't feel shy about taking pain meds if you hurt.

You asked about restrictions, Post-op.

Your surgeon should have talked to you about that - BUT
generally speaking they are:
1) Don't lift the elbow above the shoulder on the PM side for 6 weeks.
2) Don't lift anything heavier than 5 lbs w/ the arm on the PM side for 6 weeks (a gallon of milk weighs 8 lbs.)
3) Don't get the incision wet till the Steri Srips fall off
4) No driving for 6 weeks.
5) No swinging from the dining room chandelier w/ the PM side Arm while eating a banana w/ the other hand for 6 weeks.
6) No playing horseshoes for 6 Weeks (actually, I just threw that one in as a bonus.

Those are the most common of the restrictions - but they vary w/ the surgeon.

Yesterday I moved to a new place in my mind and realized how bad I felt 'before' and the difference my pacemaker has made.
