Hi:)
I hope by the time you read this that you are home and resting comfortably.
When you feel up to it, please tell us how your entire experience went...I find it helps others who are awaiting their pacemakers too.
And please don't hesitate to ask any questions.
Just make sure you follow the directions/rules they gave you - especially about raising your arm. You shouldn't be in any pain although you may experience some discomfort...and sleeping, well, that can be challenging for the 1st couple of weeks.
Wishing you the best.
Take care,
Pookie

Hi folks! Well the day has passed and all went well. it started in the waiting room where I was collected and taken to a small room where an ECG was done as well as a chest shave, then back to the waiting room. It was a long wait however two nurses came and collected me and took to the room for pre-op prep. A cannula was inserted then the doc came in and explained the procedure. Laying in the cath lab was an experience in listening to the nurses and the doc preparing the area to be operated on. As I chose not to have a general anesthetic I could hear what was going on. The local anesthetic worked really well without incident , all I could feel was tugging and pulling. Interestingly I could hear my pulse rate on the machine beeping and being tuned by the cardio tech......speeded up then slowed down etc. The whole process took about 1hour and twenty minutes. They took me straight to the high dependency unit to recover where I stayed overnight and came home this morning. When the anesthetic wore off the pain level lifted considerably so Panadol and Endone was prescribed. The cardio tech came in this morning to check the PM, he explained that the PM was pacing 99.6% overnight. I have an appointment in ten days time. I would like to say that I am glad I found the Pacemaker Club before I had the procedure, the information here is brilliant in helping me to get an understanding of what to expect. I told my cardiologist about the club and he did not know about it so a job well done to the folks who started the site. I will add more as time goes by through the healing process. Namaste. Bas

Hi Bas, glad the implant went well. I had my first PM implanted just last Tuesday. Experience seems similar to yours. Early, early days but I am feeling great. All the best with your new life as a PM Person.
You know you're wired when...
You fondly named your implanted buddy.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
good luck
