Back in the saddle

Three weeks and five days post my PM installation today and this morning completed my regular mountain bike ride....2 hours and five mins in the saddle on a fairly hilly off road course. Deliberately took it easy and was surprised to be only about 8 mins off my normal pace. Averaged 116 bpm with a top out at 152 bpm on a heavy climb. Wearing a Garmin 810 hrm to keep an eye on things but all good. This is my 4th ride since the operation and the first I didn't really think about my condition. Plan to steadily build back to my normal 5-6 rides a week (yes I'm 61 and retired) of around 2+hours a time. I ride both MTB and road bike to give myself some variety and to take advantage of the terrain around the area I live in the hills surrounding Melboune, Australia's outer eastern suburbs.
If I sound upbeat I guess its the relief to find out that I will be able to continue to do the things I love....No matter what the doc's say before the PM installation it takes your own experience to reassure you......Happy to chat on line if anybody is worried.
Keep biking guys and girls..

PM fitted for heart block....dropping to 21 bpm at night and sometimes when resting during the day...lifetime cyclist and normal low resting pulse 45 bpm so drugs were not going to fix it. Also endurence sport enlarged heart...PM now set at min 50 bpm and max of 160 bpm. A noticeable increase in energy, lack of tiredness post ride and much more even heart rate during the ride.

Working normal again

A simple electrical block is the easiest condition to fix with a pacemaker. Properly adjusted heart activity is pretty much normal.

I had the great experience of having my AV Block come on suddenly so I felt the difference. Then my pacer was implanted in just a few days, and turned on while I was wide awake (no sedatives) so I again I felt things return to normal.

Except for a slightly sore site and a left arm that kept trying to fly up above my shoulder, I was good to go again.

enjoy,

frank

I too had a (3rd degree) block and feel much better one month living with this experience.

You are an inspiration to me. I am 70 yrs old and have lifted weights for over twenty years, however, since my PM I have not visited the gym. Feel strong again but experience some dizzy spells and a slight twitch on my left side. I am not in any significant pain I just feel different. BP / Pulse normal. Please respond thank you... enjoy your bike. Lee
