I was asked by a friend to help mow her yard. Its a huge yard but its a riding lawn mower. I am paced 100% of the time, will this affect my pacemaker?
I woke up with fast heart rate this am of 100 and very hot but I have been checking it and it is right were it is suppose to be.
I need to get out of this house. To scared to do anything, but this lady has done a lot for me and I would love to return the favor.
Please let me know if this should be ok.
Thank you for your time in advance.

We have never talked about mowing. All he said to me was not to do any strenuous activity but riding a lawn mower does not seem strenuous. So I don't know.

What does Dr say?

Has your Doctor cleared you to use power equipment? If so, help your friend if you feel comfortable but take it in small steps. Explain to her that you want to help but you need to start slow. Try one pass and see how that goes and go from there. Do not over do it though. And it might be just that your friend wants to just "get you out of the house". Good luck! I love mowing.
Thank you

Tina: Comment 2 snuck in while I was writing my comment. You know NOW!!!!! Go mow the lawn - but follow the advice in the first comment - creep up on the job.
READ ON!
Unless that mower has an engine that would power a large airplane - like in the days before jet engines; and you lie down w/ your PM right over the ignition component generating the spark for the engine; electrically that mower will not affect your PM.
Your PM is shielded against electromagnetic radiation from things like small engines just by the very nature of their construction to survive in the very hostile environment inside your body. Further, small engines (BIG ones as well) must have their ignitions shielded to prevent them from interfering w/ electronic devices. Ever see a guy running a large mower while listening to a radio? There's your proof!!!!!
One other "Unless" to it - if your RR function is so sensitive that it will send your PM into uncontrolled HR.
Otherwise, put on a wide -brimmed hat, slather your bare skin w/ lotsa Sunscreen & go enjoy a ride in the VA Sun today.
Don
The only thing that should limit you is your unreasonable fears - & this is a good start for controlling them.
Well, how did...

Cardiac Rehab

Tina, I forget your response right now, but did your Dr. say you could go to Cardiac Rehab? If yes, I think you would benefit from it greatly. If not, talk to him about it and explain you would really like to give it a try.
In the meanwhile, happy mowing!

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didnt slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.

No, I had my surgery January 7, 2013. I have just been having trouble not sure if its anxiety or not, but I am going to try to start making myself get out more. I have tried to cardiac rehab but my insurance wouldn't pay for it. I do need it though.
Thank you for all your responses.
