I just recently had to have my pacemaker settings adjusted because I was experiencing fatigue, shortness of breath and light headedness. The nurse, along with the Dr. and the "device expert" finally agreed on an adjustment and I do feel better but I am feeling more "jittery" and still a bit tired. Is this common after an adjustment and how long does it take to get used to it?

Setting Changes For Me
by Many Blessings - 2013-02-21 08:02:54
Hi Marilou,
I've had changes that made me feel better or worse right away, and changes that took a couple of days to get used to. I've also had changes that weren't right, and I didn't get used to them until they changed them again. I'm 100% paced (3 leads) so I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone or not.
I'm also not sure if it's the actual change itself that it takes time to recover from, or your body trying to recover from they negative symptoms the wrong settings caused in the first place. Hopefully, some of the experts out here can help explain that for us, since I just don't know.
Have you ever felt these same sensations after other adjustments? Or, is this something new? Did you feel bad immediately after your adjustment? Or, a few days later?
Good luck, and if you still feel weird after a week or so, call your people and let them know you're still not feeling well to see what they think might be going on.
Best wishes

Hello, yes jittery is common had my pm one month with many sensations and hurts. But had it checked this week and all find is well. Thereafter, I felt safe and much more able to think in terms of moving on mindful of my pm exercise etc. The heart central to everything, feelings security, focus, the bodies engine. Give yourself time and don't stress the connectors, listen to your doctor.
You know you're wired when...
You make store alarms beep.

New PM Settings
by SMITTY - 2013-02-20 11:02:52
Hello Marilou,
This is not common after an adjustment as it takes less than 30 seconds for your PM to get used to new pacemaker settings.
Let's look at how a PM works. If what I am about to say insults your knowledge about a PM I apologize now.
The PM has a low and high setting The PM monitors your heart beat and when it sees that your heart's natural PM is nit beating as fast as the low set point then it steps in with the necessary electrical impulses to make the hart beat at least that fast. If the heart beat is fast than the low set point the PM still checks and replaces any skip beats that it calculated could make your heart rate lower than the low set point if it continued. The PM continues to monitor the heart sending impulses to keep your heart going until the upper set point is reached and at that time steps aside and just monitors the heart rate waiting for the time the heart rate below that high set point before it will step in again.
But again, there is no break in time for a PM and any new settings it receives.
Good luck,
Smitty
