Date Set!

Hello everyone--

This is my first post on the forum, so I'll introduce myself; it is also to let you guys know that I have the date set for my pacemaker implantation: June 5th, 2013.

Anyway, my name is Jacqueline but more commonly known as Jay. I'm 20 years old, living in Northern CA and am having a pacemaker implanted for symptomatic brady and pauses. I'm engaged to a Navy sailor and I'm currently pursuing a career in firefighting; both wildland and city.

I am really excited to start feeling better but I am also scared about it. Hopefully it'll all be fine and the procedure goes smoothly. Any comfort or advice is gladly welcomed.

Welcome Jay!

Hi Jay! Good luck on your procedure, I hope you have a speedy recovery and bounce back to your busy life quickly. My name is Chelsey, I'll be 28 next month and am scheduled to have my third pacemaker put in on Thursday! Surgery is always nerve racking, and I am a very axious person. The advice people have been giving me is to just have faith in the doctors (experts) and realize that the technology is amazing and good surgeries and recoveries are the norm! I have had a pacemaker since I was 6 six years old and have led a healthy, happy life, blessed with a husband and two little boys. You have a long life ahead of you! Please stick around and let us know how it goes!!

Welcome Jay

Cold Feet?

Thank you all for your support, I really appreciated the comradry. However I'm starting to get scared and experience that worried feeling that Lubro referenced. I'm starting to get cold feet and think that no I don't need it (though I have gotten 4 cardiologists, 2 of them Stanford doctors who seem to think it would be beneficial) I'm fine and all that, even though I know I'm not :/ 22 days left.

I've had my PM for about 3 months now. the hardest part is waiting and worrying... The waiting you can't control, but try not to worry...not easy to do I know... but the procedure is not bad... the hardest thing is after the surgery... just take it slowly and you'll do fine...just give yourself time to heal...I have been getting back into more activities lately... you will do just fine...this is a very supportive group...come back to visit afterward, and let us know how you made out...

cheers...

Lubro

Hi
I'm seeing a second Cardiologist tomorrow having been referred on. Like you I'm nervous and concerned (among other things) of how noticeable the device will be and how it could affect activities. So I thought it might be a good idea to alert you to the fact that it looks like there are several ways/places they can insert the PM. eg. behind the breast. Some members have regretted that they didn't research this earlier. You probably have gone over this with your consultant but just in case.
