Don't know how common it is...

...but I had pain on the opposite side for awhile, too. I did have a complication during surgery and was told a nerve was probably irritated. Since the pain was often on the opposite side, I assumed it was some kind of "referred pain". I had my surgery a month ago and still have mild pain or irritation in my chest sometimes but most of the time I don't feel anything anymore. If it continues or worsens you should get it checked out, of course. Hope it goes away soon!

I had something simler after mine and felt it when i ate as well could be a nerve or refered pain mine did settle i felt the same thing in surgery as they passed the lead down felt like it was pressing against my wind pipe the dr said its cause the vain is close to the gullet so think mine was due to irritation it did settle though if ya worried ask the hospital or your GP. when do you go back i went back on the monday after op on the fri then 6 weeks and now i dont go till oct but been told i can ring pacing clinic anytime im worried. You will feel better as time goes on and im sure you will feel the difference too i have and i can say it was one of my worries if it would work and it does i feel sooooo much better although today my site is quiet painful but i know tomz will be better i get days like this its still healing inside. Really pleased ya home and got through ya gunna be fine :) keep positive and enjoy ya pampering off everyone helping you, iv 2 boys one autistic and they were brilliant with me but must say when i got green light to go it soon slowed down lol .
take care
