4 year old

Hello everyone! I am new to the site! I have a 4 year old (5 in June) who was born with complete heart block. We found out when I was 22 weeks pregnant. She had her PM put in when she was 4 days old. Macie has been a very outgoing normal little girl and the day I have dread since her first surgery has arrived. We found out today that her battery replacement will be this coming tues. We go in Mon for her pre op apt and for her to tour the hospital. The dr said her leads still look great however they test them in the op room and if they feel they need to be replaced they will. I am so nervous she however is excited. Trying to not let her see I am nervous and be excited for her. Anyone else go through this with there little one just wondering what to except. Thanks everyone!!

replacements

Replacements are super easy on adults, I'm assuming it's the same or at least similar with kids. They go in the same place so it's all scar tissue. It will be a lot harder on you than her, kids are pretty resilient and don't worry about possibilities like adults. I have CCHB also. I know my parents must have been worried sick but I never knew any different so it was my norm.

Prayers for you and Macie that things go smoothly and she's back to her normal happy self quickly.

p.s. I'm 46, on my 4th pm (did not get my first until I was an adult, they did not give them to kids when I was diagnosed). I'm a healthy and active mom of 2 teenagers, no one would ever guess I have the pm unless I told them. I look like all the other moms! Other than a quick surgery when the battery goes, it doesn't really affect me or how I live my life.

I agree with Tracey, things like this don't phase kids, I wish I could go back to the days of being oblivous to any of the things that could go wrong. I was 6 years old when I god my first pacemaker and 18 when I had my first battery replacement. I don't remember anything from the initial implantation but with the generator change when I was 18 it was much easier. I did have to stay overnight because they added a second lead, but afterward I was back to most activities quickly, just watched what I lifted. I can't say don't be worried, because I would be a total hypocrite. But just try to put your trust in the doctor and staff. I am having to tell myself this constantly. They do this all the time, they are experts!

Since I got my pacemaker, I don't pass out anymore! That's a blessing in itself.
