hi just wondered if anyone had any experience with the drug propanalol (beta blocker)? i only take 10mgs twice a day to control fast heart beat/palpitations of which no real cause has been determined(pm in place for heart block. )if i dont take it the symptoms are unbearable but taking it has side effects of dry mouth, cough and horseness and tight chest so no real fun with or without it also seem to keep getting painful burst blood vessles in fingers whist taking it. any comments would be gratefully recieved thanks.

Hi,

I was on Inderal for a short period years ago. All it did for me was give me night terrors. It was awful. I decided I could deal with the heart palpations better than waking up screaming and crying. My DH was glad, too!
I never had the broken blood vessels but the nightmares were enough for me. I weaned off of it and haven't taken anything since. I hasn't seemed to hurt me much.Best to you,
Gellia
been on it (inderal) for 5 days

I had been on Inderal LA 160mg 4 times a day. Large dose! I had nothing but great things to say about it. Tha only reason I am not taking it know is in April of 2006 they found my heart was stiffening and the 2 upper chambers were enlarged. They changed to a newer beta-blocker Toprol XL 100mg a day right. There hopinig to get me to 250mg a day. I am really suprised of some of these side effects.
Take care and God bless you,

SIDE EFFECTS
by bambi - 2008-01-19 10:01:17
I took this drug for years, and suffered such a slow down of my digestive system, that I was hospitalized 3 times with small bowel obstructions. O ne of the reasons to have a pacemaker implanted, is it dealt with my arrhythmias instead of the drug. Everyone reacts differently! Good luck!

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
Yes.... I have taken this drug

Hi, as started above I have taken this drug. I suffered from Graves Disease for about a year. I was given the propanalol to control the racing heartbeat. It did help... but the side effects were horrible. When the blood vessels began to burst that was the last straw. I refused to take it anymore. My heart suffered greatly because of the Graves. I now have heart block, bradycardia and tachycardia and a Dual PM to control most of it. I take Ziac and it helps with the racing heartbeat. If you are suffering side effects as you stated you need to tell someone as this is a powerful drug and there are other choices available.
Take care, good luck
