blood pressure

im sure this question has been asked before but can anyone tell me if there is a connection between the pacemaker and raised blood pressure? before the pacemaker my blood pressure lower reading(diastolic) was 80-85 but now it is 97 the top reaing is fine 120. im frustrated as to why the reading has altered.

It happened to me.

Same thing happened with my BP. Not quite that high but higher than it ever was. The possible explanation was that i was sick for awhile before getting the pacer. The thought was that the body compensates for the low blood pressure by possibly working harder than it normally would. Then when you get the pacer and your bp is easier to attain the BP is high. I don't know if that is true but it could be. The other possibility is that the bp is low or normal because of the heart not working correctly. That if it had been you would have high BP sooner. BP can go either way

It seems like getting the pacer can affect blood pressure either way. I've had the opposite experience with mine running lower than it used to be at least most of the time. the same has been true of my HR.
Bowlrbob's ideas make sense.

I just noticed: my spam filter characters are mdmsg. Does that makes this response more official??

Same problem

Before I had my PM my blood pressure was running about 110-120 over 70-75 Perfect ! ! Now after the PM I have Hi BP and need to be on BP meds.. I'd say its worth it to have the PM though, when my BP would drop from say 110/70 to 85/50 That was the reason I needed the PM to begin with. LOL
Now I run about 130-140 over 80-90 normaly.

same thing!!

Hey just wanted to let u know I had the same thing. Come to find out my bp always ran high. But due to the heart problems I got a false bp reading each time. Yours could have been doing the same. So I actually always had high bp just didn't know!!

diastolic

I am nearly three months with a pacemaker and my diastolic can be as high as 105 now which is worrying. I am getting differing opinions from my medical advisors as to putting me back on ramipril. In the meantime I am trying to lower it by diet and exercise but it is proving to be difficult. I have just ordered some Hibiscus tea to try.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
