Hi all
I am running my first 10k race tomorrow following pm implant last October.Just looking to completing it - not after a particularly fast time, however I will be pleased to get under the hour (ie 10 minute miling). Feeling a lot more confident now after several 'tweakings' at the Pacemaker clinic and building up my fitness over the past few weeks. Will keep you posted with my time (as long as it's not too slow!!

No idea

Sorry Ian I have no idea = I just sit there and let them (the pacemaker people) say we'll try this and try that and do several adjustments - I don;t understand what they are talking about. I also think it was a confidence thing - I used to be worried every time I felt a 'bump' in my heart but I don't really notice it now. Apparently it is quite normal - just the pacemaker kicking in.
Thanks for the good luck message.

.........................I am with IAN wishing you all the best.
If its your first 10k do resist the temptation to join in with the initial 'charge'..this invariably happens in winter runs where you will be with many long term runners. Go at your own pace and leave something in the tank for the last Kilo..thats when you can go for it and cross the line feeling good.
I shall be rooting for you tomorrow. Do you have a fan club to see you finish ?. Its 8.45 here in the East Midlands, so its an early night for you girl. Get all your kit set out tonight so you don't forget anything tomorrow..keep cool..keep hydrated...
Have a ball !!!

I hope you finish in 50 something minutes ! If you don't , you certainly will in your next one !
I am curious, as a runner myself, were there any particular "tweakings" that seemed to make a massive difference ?

I'm actually a seasoned runner having run the London marathon 14 times and completed several 10ks. However it will be my first race since I started getting the dizzy spells which is over 15 months ago. My 10k time used to be about 48mins depending on whether it was flat or hilly (just over 50 mins for a hilly one). I know what you mean about the temptation of trying to keep up with the others at the outset and I will try to resist that otherwise I probably will burn myself out before the finish.
I am also that bit older now, and carrying more weight! so not expecting miracles - just want to complete it having thought that I would never be able to run again until I finally decided i would have the pacemaker.
I like the spelling of the 'Yakky Dar!

Don't be...

Your 'bio' reads pretty impressive yourself Tattoo man - 80 races - you sound as keen as me on your running. Yes it is the Twin piers - it's quite flat - runs along the coast but there is a steady climb between 2 and 4K where it goes around the Little Orme. The only problem is if it's windy it's ALWAYS against you. However the weather looks pretty good at the moment for the run.
Thanks again for your support.

You know you're wired when...
You run like the bionic woman.

I had a pacemaker since 2002 and ever since then my life has been a total blessing.

I thought that may be your answer.
I think we runners imagine that there is one final tweak which will get us running like we've never run before :-
hills - no problem we don't even slow down or get out of breath !
getting slightly older - doesn't make any difference !
final straight - we overtake everybody !
If ever you do find that magical tweak, please let me know immediately !
