Might be....

doing my first Parkrun tomorrow. Going out tonight so depends on how I feel in the morning!

I have 3 aims...

1. to complete it without collapsing
2. to complete it without my calf playing up, and
3. to complete it in under 30 mins.

Think I'll be able to manage the first two - not sure about the third!

Parkrun ?

by wjs1954 - 2015-02-06 01:02:00

what is a parkrun?

is it a set distance?

whatever is and how long it is realy does not matter.

what does matter is setting a goal and going for it !!

Good luck at your attempt,

Hi Pam

I hope you and your calf have a great run !

Knowing what the weather is like in the UK at the moment , maybe you should add :-

4. to complete without getting hypothermia

Best of luck

Ian

Hydrate

by Theknotguy - 2015-02-06 03:02:54

Make sure you hydrate before the run. Otherwise, congrats on the attempt. Doesn't matter if you cross the finish line running or not - just try to cross the line.

Let us know how you did.

Hope everything goes well.

Have fun!

Best of luck with that! Hope your calf will be ok. I just registered for Bolder Boulder, a 10k, in May. Had a year of knee injuries, surgery, a freak running accident with injuries, and a 6 day CICU stay for some other med issues. So I'm starting from scratch in 2015 and excited about training again. Against all medical advice of course but the first miles back on the road were like heaven. Slow as molasses but upright and moving forward. Peace, love, running!

congrats

Hi all
Managed all 3 aims (plus Ian's 4th!) Really enjoyed it - weather conditions were perfect for running - cold, sunny and no wind.

In answer to your queries wjs 1954 a park run is a 5k run which is held every Saturday morning and is free to enter. You have a barcode which is scanned at the end of the race and you get all sorts of stats about the race and your time etc. They are held all over the UK and in fact in many other countries in the world. I was introduced to them by Tat Man (thanks Tat Man) but at that time they didn't have any in my local area. They have just started them and the one I ran this morning has only been going 3 weeks.

After problems I have had the last couple of years - 2:1 heart block when running and then following the pacemaker being fitted ongoing calf injury my fitness seemed to go right down, but hopefully after today I think I'm on the way back up! Yippee. (don't speak too soon!)

Good luck in your 10K bostonstrong - hope it goes well and keep us posted with how it went.

GingerVa - thoroughly recommend you doing a 5k - once you have done it you will get the running'bug'.

Thanks again to everyone's support on this site - glad I found it.

Good luck with the snow run - sounds fun.

Yes very disappointed with the Rugby result - never mind we still have 4 more games to play but Friday's was the important one!!

GingerVa - yes it does get easier ...eventually. I must say I find it very difficult running on a treadmill. I have run marathons in the past yet I struggle to run for 30 mins on a treadmill. I find it quite boring - nothing better than being out in the fresh air and enjoying the view. However I am lucky that I live in a wonderful area - the sea on one side and mountains on the other - it doesn't get better than that!
Keep persevering and try running outside - you may find it easier.

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
