Hi, I am ItsmeWayne, I am needing a pacemaker and am scheduled to see the installer on July 18th.
I have a very slow pulse, with a very high pulse coming on also (fibrillation?)
The cardiologist notes say a pacemaker ASAP. I am not sure if they are putting it in on the 18th and wanted to know what to expect.
As you may have already gone through this stage, I am sure you have info to glean.

Better life
by Bostonstrong - 2013-07-14 12:07:27
I got mine 2 weeks ago and it has only changed my life for the better. I breathe easier and have a lot more energy. You can expect so e soreness after surgery, mine was managed with Tylenol. I spent a few days at home and left for vacation a week later. I had to check my bag since I can't lift my arm over my head yet, but otherwise life as normal. Better than normal. Oxygen makes a huge difference and we don't get enough with a slow pulse. Best of luck and speedy recovery!

Hi and thank you Bostonstrong and Bevof NC,
Thank you for helping demistifying this a bit for me. I am having many episodes and have passed out a few times. I am pretty sure I will not last a couple more weeks and the doctors office felt I may need to go to the ER sooner than later. Fortunately, The doctor is the on call cardiologist/ electrophysiologist at the local hospital.
My pulse keeps going really low and beats in the low 30s and then at other times races and hurts my chest.
When I saw the cardiologist last week, he told me although my heart is beating at 30, there are many times it double beats and I may only getting beats that actually pump blood half the time.
My friends want me to go to the ER and get this over with. I guess they will force me to go soon!
I really feel like crap and I think my judgment may be impaired, as I am dizzy all the time.
We shall see!
Thanks again,
Itsme Wayne ... living with many health issues.
pacer and ablation 7/16
by ItsmeWayne - 2013-07-20 11:07:10
They did an emergency ablation and pacer of July 16th. I am having trouble with my sick sinus and getting my pacer in the correct range. It is set for 60 to 130, but heart insists on 40 to 150 still. I was told by pacer doc, I may need another hospital stay to attempt correction. Itsme Wayne

I doubt that they would install your pacemaker on the 18th although it's possible, It would then be late afternoon. I think you will meet your E.P. (electophysiologist ) on this day and set the date and get your pre-op orders:Probably nothing by mouth, and 1/2 you usual insulin dose....Be sure to ask about your insulin for THE day. Tell your Doc you would also like to have your post op orders at that time. They can print them out for you. Welcome to the club and Best of luck to you. Bev
