Hey! Hopefully someone here can help me... :D Little background first... I have AV node disease and a bunch of other stuff , but the main thing is that I had a pacemaker implanted about 1 year ago. I am currently going through Preseason Training for Soccer at the university I attend. Yesterday was the first day of legitimate season practice and during one of our practices I had pains that felt like a pinch inside my heart... It's the first time this has ever happened.. I was really scared and my athletic trainer has never dealt with an athlete with a pacemaker... Does anyone have an idea what this could be caused by and the severity of it? Thanks! :D

Thanks for your input! I have proven to my coaching staff that I am able to play, and my Cardiologist knows that I am playing at collegiate level (he has even written a release for me). I'll see what I can find out from down here, but I'm very far away from his office and I can't leave now... If anything I'll just go to the ER like you suggested and get it checked there. Thanks again!
Soccer Twinge

Soccer is a great sport. Iâve coached since 1982. I also have a PM. In soccer you can twist and contort your body. I have had a few twinges in my system because Iâm very active in soccer and other activities. I have felt pulling on my PM and heart and I feel itâs just that pulling or a little twinge. You know your body best, but for your own self-assurance you should check in with the doc.

Be wary...

...be VERY wary of ER's. The average sawbones knows less than you do about PM's.
You need to see a true EP/cardio, lest you be either 1) dismissed as having nothing wrong except you are being hysterical, or, 2) committed to the hosp out of mal-practice fear that they missed something they don't understand.
Your description of WHY you have the PM lacks a certain detail that is necessary for even us amateurs to make a guess about your situation. Just exactly WHAT is "... AV node disease and a bunch of other stuff.?
Being scared under such conditions is absolutely NORMAL.

ER's are a dangerous place for pacemakers. Some of the crap I've seen go on there regarding devices is downright criminal. I have been in so many screaming matches with ER staff over pacemaker operation.

I am rather amazed you can play a such a level. I have experienced the very sensatioin as you and I choose to simply compromised the heavier body work. I feel the pinches came as a result of the stress I was placing on the connection in my heart. I do, however, miss the more stressful workouts but admittedely I am very careful given this my first year with a PM. Have not consulted with my DR about this yet. Waitng to experience the same feeling again. Thanks be safe.

Your anxiety is normal. It takes some of us a little time to adjust to the new friend. As much as they love you, family and friends without a device just cannot understand the adjustment we go through. That is why this site is so valuable.
Get checked out

I don't think anyone can presume to know just what is causing your pain. It may be nothing but get checked out, even if it is by another Doctor if you are not near yours right now.
Better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully it is nothing and you will be scoring goals before you know it!!
