I was on a treadmill in a gym yesterday and gripped the handles on the treadmill to obtain a pulse rate. Held the grips for an extended period of time (longer than usual to watch the change in pulse rate as I walked) and all of a sudden felt something happening with my heart rate. I checked my pulse with my finger and it had become irregular ... as though the pacemaker was no longer regulating it. Continued to be irregular throughout the day as I experienced some of the symptoms of an irregular heart beat. Next morning pulse rate seemed to back under the control of the pacemaker. It appears some type of feedback from the treadmill monitor interfered with the pacemaker. Using a St Judes pacemaker/defib. Need to pursue further. Anyone ever experience this problem.

Pulse rate on Treadmill maximum permissible

I am on Pace Maker (St. Judes) since 2008. My pacemaker is active sparingly (less than 5 per cent). I have recently started exercising on treadmill to control my diabetes. I am 71 years old male from India. As a walk on treadmill and increase speed (I don't go beyond 4.4) the pulse rate starts increasing and may cross 130, when I start reducing speed to finally 3.6 when pulse rate drops to about 110. Any advice on what maximum pulse rate I should have.

I have an ICD which is both a pacer/defib. I have no problems with mine and it has saved my life.

It's more likely the pm interfered with the hrm than the hrm interfered with the pm. I've never heard of that happening, pm's are very well shielded.
