I signed up for 2 5k's today. The first is October 26 which is 4 days before my official 4 weeks is up. It's an easy neighborhood road course, mostly flat. I'll clear it with my Cardiologist at my appointment next week. I'm sure I'll end up run/walking it after not running for a month but I need to get back into it for my sanity. The second one is November 2nd and is a difficult trail race with lots of hills, sand, roots, etc. It is the race I trained all summer for. I know I'll have to take it easy but I just don't want to miss it.
Maybe I was just feeling sorry for myself. I missed another zumba class tonight. My friend told me someone new in class took my "spot" where I normally stand and that bothered me more than it should have. I know I'll recover and get back into running and zumba soon enough but I still feel like I'm missing out and getting out of shape. At least I can still walk to clear my head.

Good for you jumping back into it! Just participating is great at this point, don't worry about your times. Give it a few more weeks, you'll be back in zumba elbowing new chick out of your spot.
I used a recumbent bike for variety when I was healing when walking got boring.
Stay strong

You will do fine, don't worry about times right now, just enjoy the fun of race day and have the fun of participating. I met someone at Maine Marathon who was on his third pacemaker and was running the full. Your incision might be a little sore afterward, probably not as sore as your knees, hips, and back though.

...BEFORE the first real thing on 26 Oct to figure out if it will work.
One minor thing - DON't use stretchy tape - use good old Dinosaur adhesive tape that will not stretch.

Sore Incision
by valley01 - 2013-10-18 12:10:21
I wondered about the incision area as it is sore now just walking but the PM no longer feels like it's bouncing around in my chest, but that's just walking. I wonder if I bandage the incision area and tape it if it will help keep it stable when I run?
Tape MIGHT work, but...

...You have to do it right, & it might be uncomfortable.
Tape just on the surface will do nothing for it because it will just pull the top toward the bottom. You need some INWARD pressure to kind of fix it in place.
SO...put a small lump of something like a 2X2 gauze sponge folded into quarters directly atop of the PM. Now place the tape from top to bottom, tightly, so the folded sponge gets pushed in. That might well fix the PM in place.

Wow! I hit 3 weeks today and feel like i will never run again. That thought makes me miserable. I have been running since 1987 and was training for half marathon when this hit out of nowhere. I am hoping I can do a 15 walk later. Please let us know how the race goes. I am hoping you finish and feel wonderful! I am in awe that you feel ready to do this so soon. I will be looking for a new post "post" race!
good luck!!
