Volleyball

I am just wondering if those who play volleyball have issues or concerns about getting hit in the area of the pacemaker. I did see that there is a shirt with a protective device that can be purchased on the internet, but my doctor said I could play volleyball and he did not mention protecting the device area. I am a female, but I play with males who hit the ball pretty hard - "A" players.

If you take a direct hit with a ball or elbow, you will not damage your pm, it's titanium, but it will hurt. The biggest risk is bruising, our skin isn't half as tough as the pm. Really, it's up to you and what you're comfortable with. I'd probably be more willing to take a chance getting hit than deal with a shirt that has a hunk of plastic in it, but that's just me, I'm super picky about clothing I wear not getting in my way when active. Some people could never relax and enjoy the game because they were too worried about what might happen so they want the protection. The shirts get great reviews. I've seen them in person, very well made.

Stop playing with males!

Besides being dangerous they sweat a lot and smell bad. And they are poor losers. At least I was all of the above, haha. Any sport carries a certain amount of risk. I broke an ankle, wrist and nose playing basketball for many years, but I didn't have a pacemaker. My Doc said to avoid contact sports. Well most sports have occasional contact. So there will always be some risk of damaging a lead, etc. A small risk probably but still a risk. Chess perhaps? :)
