I am 62 and have an ICD. I have at least three blockages of varying degrees which restrict the flow of blood to my heart.

A few months after implant I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and try to get back into some sort of shape (besides round). I had put on a lot of weight and had no energy, so I started walking and doing light work outs. My chest would be sore for a couple of days afterwards. I explained it to my Cardiologist as that feeling you get in your arms and chest when you did too many curls, but it feels like it is right in your heart. Well, your heart is a muscle and after I worked it too hard, it hurt! My doctor adjusted my meds a little (upped my nitrates) to help.

I have adjusted my exercise schedules and now wear a FitBit that provides my heart rate. I have found my "happy zone" where i can work out without pain and am making progress. It gets easier with time, but I have learned to listen to my body and don't push it when it starts telling me it has had enough and needs a little break.

Chest pains

Any time you have chest pain you need to call your EP. It could be too strenuous exercise, but it cold also be a sign of some other problem. In any case, you've alerted your EP as to what's going on.

If it's severe pain, a trip to the ER might be in order.

You know you're wired when...

You have a little piece of high-tech in your chest.
