I started back to the gym 3x/week, doing treadmill and machines. It is going on 9 months since implant and wondering why, after one week of working out, there is slight swelling just above the implant. Does not hurt but I feel the swelling. All recovery has been good so far, just wondering about this. Taking some time off with the machines now and will just do the brisk walking. Thanks for any info, Nita

bruising

I have often noticed that the area around my implant is almost bruised looking after lifting weights- at first I was really concerned but have never had an issue with it. I have been lifting for six years since first implant. You might also ask your doctor just to confirm there is nothing else going on- mine is not ecstatic that I still do weights (I am approaching 60).

Swelling some time after implantation

I would suggest the most likely explanation is inflammation. This is characterised by swelling. Why is the site inflamed? I noticed that if you do unaccustomed exercise using the area of implantation ( in my case swimming) there is some rubbing around the hard implant and the surrounding soft tissues. This usually settles as there is a fibrotic reaction ( i.e. the tissues thicken and get tough).
If the problem is worsening I suggest you seek a medical opinion, otherwise nurse it along and it should settle, or reduce the exercise and build up slowly.
