I'm 2 weeks post op and I'm walking 30 minutes to an hour a day. is this too much? I was a fit person before.

Do you feel good?

If you feel good after taking a walk, not out of line.

They've got me in cardiac rehab and only let me do 40 minutes. But - It's very intense for the 40 minutes and I'm under constant observation. So I'm going up to where I almost have angina and then back off. But - I'm under nursing observation. Max heart rate is 120 bpm. They want me to stay in the 115 bpm range. But that's what works for me based upon my doctor's evaluation. For people in my cardiac rehab I've seen numbers as low as 90 and as high as 130. 90 is not enough for me and 130 is more than what my meds will let me do.

I don't think you're walking fast enough to cause angina. So as long as you stay under that threshold during the walk you should be OK.

You can get monitors for your heart rate while walking. Hopefully you also had a stress test? If so, you can talk to the cardiac rehab nursing staff and get maximums for heart rate and duration.

Prior to getting my PM I wouldn't exercise up to the level of angina. I was getting a lot of grief about that but - - after my collapse they told me if I hadn't been doing the exercise I probably wouldn't have survived. So even though you may not be going up to the cardio workout they talk about, every bit of exercise helps. Helps, of course, as long as you don't exercise to exhaustion.

Hope you're varying the areas where you walk and have some way to let the loved ones know if anything goes wrong. I got a medical bracelet for that reason. (Although the consensus of opinion on this forum is about 50/50 as to whether med bracelets work or not.)

They always say its ok if you can tolerate it. I am 2 weeks post revision and after 2 weeks post procedure I was on a stationary cycle for 30 minutes 3 times a week; plus walking. The PM was put in in November and the revision done in January. I am a fit person also so I do walk about 30 minutes a day and will resume cycling this week. I had a revision because a lead was not working right so maybe I'm not the best to give advice!!

If you were fit before you can be after. It's only too much if you think it's too much. I'm very fit and went right back to it as soon as a felt OK. The only limit really, as you know, is raising you arm.

I started on my exercycle in a couple days and was back on my jet ski in about 4 weeks. Also, playing golf in less than 6 weeks. You will see that some people take quite a bit of time but that is because they have addition hart conditions. If you are like me, a strong heart just with bad electricity, you will be fine.

I was walking the day I was released from the hospital. As long as you are otherwise healthy and you respect the weight lifting/arm movement limits, you can do anything you feel up to. I added hand weights during the walk and recumbent bike when I got bored with walking while healing.

me i had big issues with braddychardia and then 3rd degree heart block so i did not feel any energy for 3 months. i slept a lot and rejuvenated. i think that being fir is very important tho and one should start again as soon as one is able. jessie
