At age 71 I have had my aortic valve replaced twice in the last 20 years and I finally had to have a dual chamber pm placed last week....as well as starting on Warfarin. I am a lifelong exercise nut, playing in the mountains and deserts of the Intermountain West and was pretty bummed to have to succomb to this latest medical invasion....I was SO pleased to find this site where I think that I have a chance of figuring out how to stay active in a reasonable fashion. I am only 4 days post pm implant but feel great and am walking several miles a day....hope to return to skiing and tennis by 2-3 weeks. I'll be sure to monitor this site frequently. Thanks all!!

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
welcome!

So glad you found us! There is most definitely active life once we heal from getting a pm. I think 2-3 weeks might be a little overly optimistic for skiing but absolutely after 4-6 weeks. Tennis might be ok sooner than 6 weeks. You don't want to risk a fall or hit while you are still healing, and I found that anything with too much bouncing made me sore. When I got bored with walking I got on the incumbent bike or elliptical (no arms). By 6 weeks I was back to anything I wanted to do.
