advantages of getting older and running

10K This morning felt pretty good, tough course.

You all are probably getting tired of my post, anyway.
2nd race in four days another 1st place in old men division : ).

And I think back last Nov 22 pasted out (6th time), went to DR two days later with a hr of 37. NO Running or biking 4 months (testing time). PM 2-24-14 couple minor adjustments, last adjustment about 2 months ago. I can say I am a runner & biker. 100 mile ride next weekend, 1/2 Marathon 3 weekends away.

Congratulations, WJS1954. I like following your running on Garmin Connect. I use it, too. It looks like you handled that big hill on the 3rd mile very well- slowed your pace slightly in order to keep your heart rate steady and then sped up on the other side of the hill.

Congrats on getting 1st in your age group. You're right there is an advantage of getting older when you're running you've got more chance of getting placed as I used to before having the pm - however when people say it'sonly because there's not many in my age group I just reply that it's because a lot of women in my age group can't run!
It will be my pm's 1st birthday next month and i am going to celebrate by doing a 10k and TRY to do it in about 54 mins. I was hoping to be able to a half marathon by then but I have to admit I have been a bit lazy and have not put the mileage in ! Good luck with your half marathon - I'm really impressed you are attempting one so soon after your implant.

Hi Ginger If a PM is correctly implanted there should be no movement and pain when you exercise.

There are slots on the metal casing of the PM to allow it to be stitched firmly in place. Some people have discomfort until scar tissue is formed but if it actually hurts when exercising then the PM must be interacting with nerves in some way and should be re-positioned .

wjs1954 .. best of luck for your half in 3 weeks time.

Cheers

pammy I agree

by wjs1954 - 2014-09-21 05:09:16

I totally agree, even thou I say it is because I am getting older. It is true that others my age could be out there doing, because they choose not to really does not make my or your accomplishment any less than great. After the race Saturday my wife was saying how she felt fuuny about getting first place in her age group at a trail race little over a year ago. The person she was telling, as far as I am concerned was a idiot saying "it does not count if no one else was there in your age group." I say just because other couldn't or wouldn't come out and try it in no way makes your accomplishment any less. Believe me I am not saying this just because I happened to place first. Rather it be first or dead last, we are still ahead of those who did not come out and try"

.......Such different Bods on this Forum...

Me..I took up running a few weeks after a new Pig Valve in my heart.......and WHY NOT ..??

Six months later my first Half Marathon ...Nottingham UK in 2.12...

Since 2007 I have run 90 races .....from 5k to 17 mile...not that quick...best 10k is 53 mins.

I race every week..Parkrun 5k..every Sat at 9 am..generally sub 31 mins, off road.

Next birthday is my 65th...still looking for Age Related results.

I am not typical..but by no means unusual..

Hi WJS, love to hear the running stories for others who have PM. I too am a runner and biker with a PM. It feels so good to get out there and exercise. Doing my first half marathon in 2 weeks. Did a 12 miler yesterday and felt great. Just have to watch my fluid and sodium intact. Making sure I'm taking enough in. Happy healthy running!
