just had my top lead (one of two) replaced because became detached from the heart wall . This was done back in November and since removing the dressing have noticed that the PM is not back in the same position as before, It sticks out more and the site is still sore - it's as though the skin is really stretched over the PM . I have not been able to go back as i am abroad at the moment and not due back in the UK 'til March - does anyone know if this is normal?

I don't know what to tell you about the pain, but I was wondering how you discovered that a lead detached? Can you feel it or did you need an X-ray? And how did it happen if you are willing to share? I am still a new member of those with PMs and this still concerns me. I am left-handed and still pretty young, so I am still active. I hope you feel better.

I'm left handed as well and had the upper lead become dislodged. I was going in for my 1 month check-up for the PM interrogation and they discovered one of the leads was getting too much energy. The dr had me do a chest xray and it was discovered that the lead was dislodged. The reason given to me was because the pm had dropped and put tension on the leads. I had to re-pear the surgery and he sewed the pm in a pouch and also gave a little more slack on the leads. He repositioned both leads. I'm on day 5 of recovery. I had no indicactions of a problem because I felt great. Lexi, I hope this does''nt make you feel uncomfortable because this is a rare occasion.

Problem !!

Hello, Reading your posting tells me you're having same problem as I've had 3 times over the years. Normally most implants are replaced when any lead work is done as has been my case 6 times. Regardless, most times going into the pouch formed around your pacemaker by scar tissue it can be a problem especially if a person is lean & not much of a fat layer covering the implant.
In your case not going back till Next month & having dealt with this problem I would be very carefull in upper body usage, not much lifting, wearing some soft padding to protect the area.
Keep checking for any change in color. If any brownish shows at the highest protrusion would be a sign of erosion started.
Even after that, normally there still is some time before you risk infection as has been my experience.
Infection is of course the big risk. As I.have been through that route also just this past year & also having erosion 3 ifferant times over the past 22 years with the 6 pacemakers being replaced, Questions are welcome !! Send me Private Message !! Less Pucker Attacks for our readers !!
