Hi Tinkie, like Ian said scary is to have and know that your heart is not responding to you and that anytime could fail you completely.
I had my pm 5 weeks now, 3rd degree block I am 100% paced, honestly after 3rd week things started to get better and better, a few things here and there, sometimes you can feel you pm working but they adjusted it right at the clinic and that is gone, now I am focus on getting stronger back to normal life, taking care of myself and let your little new friend take care of things...
nothing to be scared about.
Just give yourself time to accept it, and your body to adjust itself.
I am very happy I found this website, there are lots of people here with lots of knowledge and they are always willing to help. Stick around and good luck!!!
best
Pilar
Thank You

Hi there Ian and Pilar
Thank you so very much. I really appreciate your encouragement. I am scared that I wont be able to handle the pain or that something goes wrong. The hospital I am going to is far from home, and what if they cant get my settings right of if I go too close to the wrong things without realizing. And I am 34 now, and what if the leads wear out and I need like lots of new pacemakers and each time the risk of infection is bigger? I just prefer to stay away from doctors and hospitals, and I dont feel any symptoms, so not sure if I am even doing the right thing??

.. and what if you're hit by an asteroid as you're walking out of the hospital ?
.. what if your house has been struck by lightning and burnt to the ground while you'r having your PM fitted ?
or, what if everything goes really well and you have none of the problems that concern you ?
You will be just fine !!! Enjoy the new experience !

Thanks Ian - I will try my best not to worry so much. I am leaving town tomorrow to go to a wedding, so that should take my mind off things a bit.
I really appreciate your advice and answers. Hope everything is going well on your side!!
Thanx

Thanx Ian.
I guess I am just being crazy!
OK, lets be a bit more realistic. I really dont know what to expect? Is it very very sore? And how do you feel afterwards? Do you just feel like sleeping for weeks, or do you start doing normal things, just minding your arm. My doctor said i can go back to work in a week and drive in 2 weeks - does that sound right? When can i pick my son up again? Can i hang washing and make food and wash dishes? Or will i just feel very weak and tired and stay in bed for a couple of weeks?
Hi again

Tinkie I can only be honest and say how it was for me :-
The whole thing took less than an hour.I was wheeled out of the ward at 11.00am and wheeled back in at 11.50 when I had lunch . The actual implant bit took about half an hour. I had a local anaesthetic and didn't feel a thing.
I talked to the Dr and nurse throughout the procedure.
I think going to the dentist is worse and I really do mean that !!!
I went home at 5.00pm.
I honestly never felt sore at all ( but some people say they do ! ) The worst part for me was not being able to shower for 2 or 3 days , but I eventually placed cling film over the wound and wow, that first shower was good !
Day 6 , I removed the dressing and it was healing beautifully.
Day 7 , I drove over 400 miles as I had pre-booked a vacation. I had a great time with no problems whatsoever.
From what I read on here, the people who worry the most seem to have the most problems so ( and I know it's easy for me to say ! ) DON'T WORRY !!!
Let us know how you get on

The wrong thing is scaring you !

Hi Tinkie I've just read your previous posts and I see that you have complete heart block which has been untreated for some time ; I would find that very very very scary !
But why should getting your problem solved scare you ???
What exactly is it about having a PM implant that scares you ??
You will probably find that afterwards you have
more energy to look after your two and half year old and you will feel better !
Your condition is far worse, and far more worrying than the cure which, for most people is a piece of cake !
Best of luck
Ian
