2 operations to correct a misplaced lead

I had a defi\b/pacemaker device implanted the end of march this year .immediately after being discharged from the hospital in Brunswick ,Ga. {we were on vacation }, I was suffering from extreme pain in the lower part of my heart area .the Dr.Mark Watkins who did the surgery said it was post-op pain . I continued to suffer for about a week then went to a local hospital in Atlanta to have my device checked .They found that the shock lead was not operating .It had penetrated the wall of my heart ! This was causing my pain ! A second surgery corrected this problem .My point here is Drs. do screw up ,so if you have any pain get it checked out !!!!! Hope this helps someone .

I had my pacemaker in November of 2004 and the exact same thing happened to me - except my heart sac filled with blood - my heart couldn't/wouldn't beat - pacemaker or not - and I coded; not once but twice!!!. Had emergency surgery and then the lead fell 3 more times, which meant more surgeries (all within 10 days in the critical care unit) then the entire unit migrated into my armpit - so 6 months after initial implant (from hell) I had to go in yet again for another surgery. It was quite the journey and I am lucky to be here.

I have told my story here many times - back in 2005, 2006, 2007, etc. so YES I totally agree with you and try to get the word out as well that if you don't feel right, do NOT hesitate to go to the ER; that is what they are there for and if it turns out to be nothing, oh well.
